Knoxville, TENN - The Knoxville Ice Bears President and GM Mike Murray announced yesterday at a public press conference Jeff Carr has been hired as head coach for the 2017-2018 season.

Carr, an Eagle River, Wisconsin native, has 5 years of coaching experience at multiple levels including his most recent post as an assistant coach of the Anaheim Ducks’ ECHL affiliate Utah Grizzlies. In his young coaching career, Carr has amassed a winning record of 129-70-17 as either an assistant or head coach.

“We are very excited to welcome Jeff to the organization and the East Tennessee community. After an overwhelming amount of candidates from all over the world and reassurance from the likes of former NHL’er Tony Granato, Jeff met all the qualities we were looking for ; someone that has seen success, has a great recruiting pedigree and rapore with the players as a motivator, educator, community leader and most of all the hunger to win,” said Murray.

Coach Carr plans to build a team of fast, hard-hitting players who also embrace the community-centric atmosphere Knoxville Ice Bears fans have come to expect. “I know the byproduct of doing things the right way is winning” Said Carr, during Thursday’s press conference.

When asked by a fan what style of play he plans on implementing, Carr responded, “High tempo… I’ll bring in some big defensemen… who like to hit a lot of bodies”, which caused a wave of cheers and applause from Knoxville fans in attendance.

Coach Carr is actively recruiting new talent to join him in Knoxville as the Ice Bears search for a 5th SPHL championship in franchise history.
