Knoxville, TN (September 28, 2017) The Knoxville Ice Bears have sold out their 10th Free Agent Showcase that will be hosted at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum October 6th – 8th. The showcase, which is composed of 50 players (42 skaters and eight goaltenders), will be open to the public and free to attend.
Prospective players will participate in a series of off-ice test, participate in a full practice run by head coach Jeff Carr, and participate in three intrasquad games. The Free Agent Showcase is designed to give players who have not progressed through traditional paths, stepped away from the game, or any player who has not secured a professional tryout (PTO) another chance to make a team.
The Knoxville Ice Bears reserve two PTOs for main training camp for the players who can compete for a roster spot.
In recent years, players Danny Cesarz, Jake Flegel, Jake Rivera, Lucas Chavira-Schramm and others have not only secured roster spots but have played significant roles for the team.
“We’re excited to be hosting a camp that will allow many players a legitimate chance to earn a PTO and an invite to our Training Camp. Many of the sign-ups had choices between other camps and chose us. It’s a great outlook into the near future knowing we filled the camp and had to turn away players that wanted to sign up. It showed us that many players from all across North America and Europe want to play in front of a great fan base in an outstanding city while wearing the Knoxville Ice Bear logo,” said Head Coach Jeff Carr.
The Knoxville Ice Bears begin their 16th season of play on the road on Friday, October 20th in Mississippi and will play at home on Friday, October 27th at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum – puck drop is at 7:30 pm. Individual tickets go on sale Monday, October 2nd at 12 pm and are available by calling (800) 745-3000 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
