KNOXVILLE, TENN. - (November 14,2017) Head Coach Jeff Carr announced Thursday morning defenseman Charlie Granath will join the Ice Bears, beginning this Friday, November 24th. He also announced Tommy Kelley has been recalled from the Manchester Monarchs (ECHL).
Granath, the 21 year old from Stockholm, Sweden, joins the Ice Bears from the Swedish Division 1 league. Before returning to Europe, Granath spent 2 seasons with the Salt Lake City Moose (WSHL), under coach Carr.
“Granath plays a lot like David Brancik. He plays quick, long, and is great with his stick. He’s a defensive defenseman,” Carr said. “He’s a lefty and will be paired with Flegel. This will be the first time, this season, we’ve had a lefty-righty defensive pairing.”
Tommy Kelley returns to Knoxville after a 3-game run with Manchester. Coach Carr spoke highly of Kelley saying, “He produces on offense and has looked great since returning, earlier this week. We’re expecting more good things from him, this year.”
The Ice Bears practiced mid-morning on Thanksgiving before sharing a holiday meal together. Knoxville will take on the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs, Friday night at 7:30 PM, for Blackout Friday. The Ice Bears merchandise stand will have a 20% store-wide Black Friday sale, during the game.
