Ice Bears Erupt for Five Goals in the First Period for 6-2 Win

Knoxville, TN (November 24, 2017) Danny Cesarz two goals, Zoltan Hetenyi made 28 saves and the Knoxville Ice Bears used five first period goals to defeat the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs 6-2 on Friday night.

The Ice Bears have points in three straight games. Roanoke has lost six of its last eight.

Cesarz scored his first of the night while attempting to center a pass from the left wing. The puck deflected off a Roanoke stick and flipped over the left shoulder of Ryan de Melo at 4:41 of the first. Evan Neugold scored on the power play at 14:57 with a one-timer blast from the blue line.Cesarz, Chris Izmirlian, and Tommy Kelly all scored in a span of 1:12 to push the lead to 5-0 at the end of the opening period. Cesarz beat de Melo five-hold from the high slot. Izmirlian’s wrister found the net top shelf and that was the end of the night for de Melo. Brad Barone relieved de Melo and gave up a goal 50 seconds later off a deflection by Kelley.

Josh Erickson tallied the only goal of the second with a wrist shot from the right circle to beat Barone’s glove at 8:20.

Nick Schneider poked a rebound through Hetenyi’s pads to spoil the shutout at 9:38 of the third. Riley Spraggs also scored for Roanoke with 50 seconds remaining.
