Ice Bears Start New Year with 6-2 Win

Knoxville, TN (January 2, 2018) Berkley Scott had a goal and two assists, Mike Chen added three assists and the Knoxville Ice Bears beat the Birmingham Bulls 6-2 on Tuesday night at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. The Ice Bears have now won six of their last seven. The Bulls have dropped seven straight.

Tyler Palmer opened the scoring for Knoxville at 4:28 of the first with a shot from the left point that beat the glove of Mavric Parks. Andy Bathgate tied it for Birmingham with a rebound at 8:41. Jake Flegel gave Knoxville the lead again with a wrister from the slot at 10:30 to make it 2-1 at the end of the first.

Marcus Ortiz, Lawrence Cornellier and Tommy Kelley also scored for Knoxville. Ortiz’s goal was his first as an Ice Bear. Elliot Grauer assisted on Kelley’s goal to give him an eight-game point streak. The rookie has 11 points during the run.

Josh Harris scored on a penalty shot late in the third period for Birmingham.

Knoxville visits Huntsville this Friday and Peoria on Saturday.   Join all the Ice Bears fans at the Crown and Goose in Knoxville’s Old City for away game viewing party – 8 pm start each night.
