Knoxville, TN (February 18, 2018) Colin Murray scored two goals and the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs beat the Knoxville Ice Bears 5-2 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum Sunday afternoon.

The Ice Bears outshot Roanoke 40-23. It was the first time this season Knoxville dropped back-to-back home games.

Murray scored first for Roanoke with a one-timer from the right point that beat the glove of Zoltan Hetenyi and went in off the post at 14:28 of the first. Darius Cole carried the puck down the left wing on a two-on-one, evaded Knoxville’s David Brancik, and fired a wrister top shelf at 16:53 to give the Rail Yard Dawgs a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Daniel Vernace added to Roanoke’s lead when he intercepted a clearing attempt at the point before skating in and beating Hetenyi on his left side at 8:41 of the second. Murray tabbed his second of the night to make it 4-0 at 3:31 of the third.

Knoxville made it interesting after Marcus Ortiz scored off a rebound at 11:44 of the third to spoil the shutout. Tyler Howe poked in a loose puck in front on the power play less than two minutes later to make it 4-2 with more than six minutes remaining. Steve Mele ended any further hopes of a comeback with an empty-netter at 16:50.

The Ice Bears will host Birmingham on Friday for Local Brew Night.  The game will highlight a beer garden that will feature locally brewed beers.  The event will run pregame from 6:00 – 7:30 pm with the puck drop at 7:30 pm.  The Ice Bears will host Macon on Saturday for Super Hero night, where you can meet some of your favorite superhero characters during the game.  All tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com.
