Knoxville, TN (January 25, 2019) Rookie Jason Pawloski made 41 saves and the Knoxville Ice Bears held off the Quad City Storm 2-1 at the Civic Coliseum on Friday.

The Ice Bears snapped a three-game skid and improved to 4-0-1 against Quad City this year. The Storm have lost four straight.

Scott Cuthrell won a puck battle along the left wing and found Marcus Ortiz all alone by the blue line. Ortiz cut back to his right through the left circle and the puck was deflected across the high slot. Stanislav Dzakhov skated up from the blue line, fired a one-timer and beat Peter Di Salvo to put Knoxville on the board first at 15:25 of the opening period.

Knoxville took a 2-0 lead when Eric Ylitalo took the puck through the neutral zone on a three-on-two down the right side. He cut back towards the middle and found space in the high slot for his wrister to find the net at 5:03 of the second.

Quad City got one back with 40 seconds remaining when Tyler Minx’s shot from the high slot bounced off Pawloski’s shoulder and fell behind him into the net to cut the lead to 2-1 at the second intermission.

Both teams traded opportunities in the third. Knoxville nearly extended the lead, but Di Salvo made a diving save to stop Gehrett Sargis’ close range shot from the left side. Quad City had a flurry of chances late in the game, but Pawloski made several stops to preserve the win.

Knoxville and Quad City close out the two-game series Saturday night in Knoxville with Country Night.  Performing the first intermission with rising stars Smithfield.  Puck drops at 7:30, visit www.ticketmaster.com to pick your seats for the game.
