Knoxville, TN (February 9, 2019) The Knoxville Ice Bears rallied from an early two-goal deficit to eventually force overtime, but Fayetteville’s Darren McCormick scored 53 seconds into the extra period to give the Marksmen a 4-3 win at the Civic Coliseum on Saturday night.

McCormick also tied the game with a goal at 8:47 of the third after the Ice Bears had taken a 3-2 lead off Roberts Locans’ second goal in as many nights for Knoxville.

Fayetteville opened the scoring when Taylor McCloy circled around the Knoxville net and sent the puck from circle-to-circle for David Mazurek to bury it past Hayden Stewart at 8:40 of the first. The Marksmen took a 2-0 lead into the dressing room when Taylor Pryce’s shot off a face off in the left circle glanced off Stewart and trickled across the goal line.

Knoxville responded in the second period when Anthony McVeigh’s own shot in front of the crease was blocked right back to him and he lifted his rebound attempt over Nathan Perry’s shoulder to cut the deficit in half at 4:59.

Less than three minutes later Gehrett Sargis fired a pass through the neutral zone to a breaking Scott Cuthrell. Cuthrell’s point blank shot was stopped by Perry, but Stefan Brucato followed up the rebound to send the game into the second intermission with a tie score.

Stewart finished with 32 saves for Knoxville. Perry was pulled due to an apparent injury after the second period and ended his night with 34 saves. Dillon Kelley replaced Perry to start the third.
