Locans Scores Hat Trick

Knoxville, TN (February 17, 2019) Roberts Locans scored a natural hat-trick and the Knoxville Ice Bears held off the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs 3-2 on Sunday at the Civic Coliseum.

Doug Rose and Stefan Brucato had two assists each for Knoxville and Hayden Stewart made 29 saves. Knoxville has points in five of its last six games.

Colin Murray struck first for Roanoke with a wrist shot from the left circle that beat Hayden Stewart up high at 9:19 of the first.

Locans scored 35 seconds later to tie the game with a blast from the high slot. Locans took a pass in the neutral zone in front of his own bench and weaved into the zone before ripping the puck past Brad Barone’s blocker.

Knoxville had a chance to take the lead before the first intermission when a penalty on a breakaway resulted in Lucas Bombardier being awarded a penalty shot at 14:58. Bombardier skated in close, but his backhand was pushed aside by Barone.

After a scoreless second period Locans fired a one-timer from the left circle that beat Barone on a power play at 7:30 of the third. He complete the hat-trick with another power play goal from the right circle less than three minutes later.

Jeff Jones drew Roanoke within one with the extra attacker on at 18:43, but the Rail Yard Dawgs couldn’t pull even.

Knoxville stays home to host Quad City on Thursday. The Rail Yard Dawgs continue a long homestead when they travel to Peoria on Friday.
