Knoxville Ice Bears support local charities

The Knoxville Ice Bears, their fans and corporate partners raised nearly $2,000 at the “Pink in the Rink” game which took place on February 16.  Fans made monetary donations to the Komens volunteers’ “Pink Bucket Brigade,” and sponsors such as Lance Cunningham Ford, Knoxville Harley Davidson, The Rush, Extreme Nutrition and others matched funds for each goal scored during a first intermission “Ultimate Fight” shoot-out.  Several local breast cancer survivors and ultimate fighters participated in the promotion. The Knoxville Ice Bears players also wore special edition pink, black and white jerseys, which were auctioned off after the game, and portion of these proceeds will be donated.  Proceeds benefited the Knoxville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.  “We are grateful to the Ice Bears for sponsoring “Pink in the Rink” and providing an opportunity to bring our life-saving message of early detection to thousands of their fans.” said Jane Brannon, Executive Director of Komen Knoxville.  The Knoxville Ice Bears will also present a $330 check to East Tennessee Children’s Hospital during the 7th Annual Star 102.1 Radiothon tomorrow. The money was raised from a silent auction of hockey items that were donated by an anonymous community member. This donation makes the tie between the Ice Bears and the Children’s Hospital even stronger. The players already visit the facility and deliver teddy bears to patients about eight times a season.  The Knoxville Ice Bears play at home tomorrow against the Columbus Cottonmouths and on Friday, February 29 against the Fayetteville FireAntz. The games will be played at the U.S. Cellular® home ice located inside the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. both nights.
