Swider steals the show
date: 03/13/2010
It was a battle of the league leading goal scorers as Kevin Swider and his Knoxville Ice Bears faced off against Rob Sich and the Fayetteville FireAntz for the second night in a row. Knoxville made it known they are serious about defending the President’s Cup by defeating the FireAntz 4-1.
The first period was fast and furious and scoreless with 20 shots on goal. Knoxville set the pace and dominated the puck but wasn’t able to put one past Fayetteville goalie Guy St. Vincent.
Fayetteville’s Rob Sich scored his 59th goal of the season to put the first point on the board. The FireAntz led after the second, 1-0.
The line of Kevin Swider, Bobby Joe Pelkey and Tim Vitek rules the third period, with a little help from Mark Van Vliet and goalie Andrew Galliant. Swider scored five minutes into the period and again at 8:45, 12:06 and 14:47 into the period, putting an exclamation point on a hard-fought battle. Vitek and Van Vliet were given credit for Swider’s first goal. Pelkey and Vitek had assists on goals two, three and four. Knoxville Ice Bears win their second game this weekend, 4-1.
Swider now has 41 goals in the last 26 games and 84 points on the season.
